Suunto Race 3S Adds AI Coach and Titanium Case

Suunto’s Race 3S arrived on 15 October 2026 for €499, pairing a 46 mm titanium case and sapphire glass with a new app-based Suunto AI Coach. The watch is aimed squarely at athletes who want one device for structured running, cycling, swimming, triathlon and gym work, rather than a pared-back running watch. The more interesting launch may be the software: a chat-based coach that turns the data already collected by the watch into workouts, plans and routes.
Hardware built for long sessions
The Race 3S has a 33.5 mm AMOLED display rated at 466 x 466 pixels and 2,000 nits, two buttons plus a crown, 64 GB of memory, and a listed weight of 57 g. Its 50 m water resistance, barometric altimeter, compass and dual-frequency multi-GNSS position it as a serious outdoor and multisport tool. The new wrist heart-rate and blood-oxygen sensor is optical, using light to read blood-volume changes. GPS positioning comes from satellites, while elevation tracking from the barometer measures air pressure. Different jobs, different sensors.
Battery is the headline hardware claim. Suunto rates the Race 3S for 38 hours in dual-frequency multi-GNSS mode with the screen set to auto-off, 34 hours with always-on display, and up to 110 hours in multi-GNSS eco mode. The source attributes the uplift to a silicon-carbon anode battery, rather than a conventional graphite anode. For long-course triathletes, ultra runners and riders who hate charging before every key session, those figures make the Race 3S worth a close look. We have also compared its broader positioning with Garmin’s options in our [Race 3S vs Garmin Forerunner 570 and 970 guide](/en/articles/suunto-race-3s-vs-garmin-forerunner-570-and-970-2026-10-16).
A broader sports toolbox
Suunto has loaded the watch with pacing tools for 5 km through marathon distances, equipment tracking, heart-rate broadcasting, Varia radar and Concept2 connectivity, swim drills, automatic triathlon and swimrun transitions, HIIT rest timing, strength tracking, and a dedicated HYROX mode that sequences the stations. There are also sport-score tools and water-sport additions including pump foil, wing foil and a surf wave counter. A useful caveat: Montre Cardio GPS says several of these capabilities are delivered through downloadable SuuntoPlus Store apps, so they are not necessarily Race 3S exclusives.
Navigation remains a strong part of the proposition: customisable maps, turn alerts, climb guidance, offline app maps and web-based Routeplanner support are all included. The watch can store up to 200 routes. Music playback is here too, though it is limited to MP3 files. For athletes whose weekend training involves unfamiliar trails or long rides, that blend of mapping and battery is more meaningful than a long feature checklist.
Suunto AI Coach is the real experiment
According to The5kRunner, Suunto AI Coach is a paid, chat-based service in the Suunto app that uses an athlete’s own data to build workouts, training plans and routes. It can access training summaries, all-day tracking including sleep and HRV, training load, and mapping, according to Montre Cardio GPS. In practical terms, this could reduce the friction between seeing data and acting on it: ask for a session that fits the weather, compare periods, create a route or push a plan to the Race 3S. That is a much better idea than asking athletes to decode every metric themselves.
The catch is substantial. Race 3S buyers receive only three months of free AI Coach access, after which it will be paid, with no final subscription price announced. Suunto plans broader access for owners of other Suunto GPS watches in early 2027, but we still do not know what ongoing use will cost. There is also no finished independent accuracy or battery test in the supplied reporting, so Suunto’s sensor and endurance claims need real-world validation.
Our verdict: the Race 3S looks like a compelling premium Suunto multisport watch for endurance athletes who value maps, long dual-frequency GPS runtime and a compact 46 mm form. AI Coach could be its biggest advantage over a conventional training-data dashboard. Buy the watch for the hardware and sports platform first. Treat the AI as a promising three-month trial until Suunto names the subscription price.
