Garmin TopoActive 2026.10 Map Update Bricking Edge and Forerunner Devices

Garmin's TopoActive 2026.10 map pack is live in Garmin Express right now, and it is causing serious problems. Multiple Edge and Forerunner owners are reporting their devices entering unrecoverable boot loops after installing the update, often mid-ride.

The boot loop issue appears to be widespread enough that The5kRunner flagged it as urgent. An unrecoverable state means a full device reset or warranty claim, not a simple restart. For athletes mid-training block or racing season, losing a GPS unit this way is a real problem.

Edge cycling computers are a go-to for road and gravel riders who rely on turn-by-turn navigation, live segments, and power data. Forerunner watches cover a huge chunk of the running and triathlon community. A map update that bricks either device mid-ride is not a minor inconvenience.
