Huawei Runner 2 Beats Garmin 970 and Apple Ultra 3 in GPS Test
Controlled track testing from The5kRunner pitted four watches head-to-head on GPS accuracy: the Garmin Forerunner 970, Apple Watch Ultra 3, Amazfit Balance 2, and Huawei Watch Ultimate Runner 2. The results flipped expectations hard.
The Huawei Runner 2 came out on top in both pure GPS and dedicated track mode accuracy. That is not a result most runners would have predicted going in, especially up against Garmin's flagship running watch and Apple's most premium wearable.
The Apple Watch Ultra 3 had a track mode failure. Not a minor deviation. A flat-out failure in that specific mode, which matters if you do interval sessions or speed work on a 400m track and want clean lap data. Garmin's Forerunner 970 performed well but still got edged out, which stings given its price point sits well above the Huawei.
For endurance athletes who care about GPS precision, especially triathletes logging brick sessions or runners chasing accurate pace data, this kind of independent track testing is exactly what you need before spending 500-plus dollars on a watch. Brand reputation does not equal accuracy.
Solid win for Huawei. Worth watching closely.
