iOS 26 Gives Garmin Users Granular iPhone Notification Control
iOS 26.3 finally lets Garmin watches filter iPhone notifications independently, without killing entire app alerts. This is a real fix: before this update, your only option on a Fenix 7 or Forerunner 965 was all-or-nothing per app, which meant suffering Slack pings mid-interval or going dark entirely.
The new system works as a two-tier notification layer. Garmin can now request its own permission level from iOS, letting the watch decide what surfaces on the wrist separately from what hits your phone. Currently rolling out in the EU only, so US and global athletes are waiting.
Apple Watch has had this level of notification granularity baked in from day one, obviously. Garmin users have been asking for parity for years, and this is the first time the iOS side of the wall has actually moved. Whoop and Polar still have no comparable control on iPhone.
The5kRunner flags this as a foundation, not a finished feature. Deeper integration is reportedly coming, which could mean smarter do-not-disturb during workouts, context-aware alerts tied to training load, or live data sharing between platforms. Nothing confirmed yet.
Solid step forward. Long overdue. Watch the EU rollout closely before expecting this on your wrist worldwide.
