Garmin Descent X30: Dive Watch Without Built-In Air Integration

Garmin has released the Descent X30, a trimmed-down version of its dive watch lineup that drops built-in air integration to hit a lower price point. Think of it as the Fenix-to-Forerunner step-down, but for divers who also train on land.
Without air integration, the X30 relies on external transmitters if you want tank pressure data during dives. That's a real compromise for serious divers, though recreational divers logging shallower sessions will rarely miss it. The core dive modes, surface GPS, and Garmin's full suite of training metrics stay intact.
For endurance athletes who also dive, this is where the X30 makes sense. You get Garmin's training load, HRV status, and recovery tools alongside dive logging. Competing against a Polar Grit X2 Pro or Coros Vertix 2S on land-based metrics, the Garmin ecosystem still wins on breadth of data and Connect platform depth.
Battery life and exact pricing haven't been fully confirmed yet, but the Descent Mk3i sits above it with full air integration for around $1,100. The X30 should land meaningfully cheaper. Worth watching if the final number clears the value bar.
Not the watch for dive professionals. But for triathletes or trail runners who spend weekends underwater, it could be the right tool at the right price.
