New Garmin Varia HUD: Meta and Strava Support Confirmed

A new Garmin Varia Head-Up Display is getting closer to reality. Leaked data now points to both Meta smart glasses integration and Strava support, two partnerships that would push the Varia HUD well beyond its original radar-only roots.

The original Varia RTL515 rear radar is already a staple for road cyclists who want traffic alerts on their Garmin head unit. A dedicated HUD takes that concept off your handlebars and onto your field of vision, which matters on fast descents or in race situations where looking down at a computer costs you seconds and situational awareness.

Meta integration is the real talking point here. Pairing Varia radar data with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses would mean real-time vehicle alerts delivered directly in your eyeline, no head unit required. Strava support likely means segment alerts and live data overlays, the kind of features that make a training ride feel like a structured workout without a phone in your pocket.

Garmin has not confirmed specs or pricing yet. For context, the current RTL515 retails around $100, and a HUD product would almost certainly sit higher, competing in territory occupied by Coros Dura-style simplicity versus Wahoo Elemnt Bolt-level feature density. The question is whether the optics and battery life can hold up on a 4-hour ride.

Solid direction from Garmin. If the execution matches the partnership lineup, this could make the Varia ecosystem genuinely essential for road cyclists.
