Oura Sues Amazfit, Reebok, and Noise Over Smart Ring Patents

Oura Health has filed three separate patent infringement lawsuits against Amazfit, Reebok, and Noise, targeting the structural design of their smart rings. The suits center on Oura's patented curved battery layout and sensor placement, the core engineering that makes a ring-shaped wearable actually work for 24/7 health tracking.

The Amazfit Helio Ring, Reebok Smart Ring, and Noise Luna Ring are all in the crosshairs. These are not fringe products: the Helio Ring launched at $299 and positions itself as a serious HRV and recovery tracker, competing directly with Oura Gen 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Ring in the premium segment.

Oura has been building its patent wall for a while. This is not the first lawsuit. The company previously went after Samsung's Galaxy Ring. The pattern is clear: Oura intends to own the structural blueprint of the category, not just the brand.

For athletes already wearing a ring alongside a Garmin Fenix or a Whoop band, this legal pressure matters. Fewer competing rings means less price competition and slower feature development. The Helio Ring's deep Zepp OS integration was one of the more interesting alternatives on the market.

Verdict: Oura's tech is legitimately good, and protecting real IP is fair. But three lawsuits in quick succession looks less like defense and more like market control. Watch this space.
