Amazfit December Updates: T-Rex 3, Helio Strap and Balance 2 Improved
Amazfit pushed significant software updates to three of its key devices in December: the T-Rex 3, Helio Strap, and Balance 2. The rollout includes Zepp OS 5 and new training modes, signaling a faster development pace than what most athletes expect from a mid-range brand.
The T-Rex 3 is already one of the better rugged sport watches under $300, sitting comfortably alongside the Coros Vertix 2S in durability conversations. Software updates that add functionality post-launch matter here because hardware at this price point lives or dies by long-term support.
The Helio Strap gained a Rucking mode, which is a specific win for Hyrox and military fitness athletes who want accurate load-bearing tracking. Garmin has offered rucking support for a while, but seeing Amazfit move into that space shows the brand is paying attention to where endurance sport is growing.
The Balance 2 updates lean into recovery and readiness metrics, an area where Whoop and Polar have set high expectations. Closing that gap with software rather than new hardware is smart and keeps existing owners invested in the ecosystem.
Solid update cadence. Not Garmin-level polish yet, but Amazfit is clearly building toward something worth watching.
