Garmin Forerunner 170 Leak: What the Listings Actually Tell Us

A Garmin Forerunner 170 has surfaced on a Russian retailer and an AliExpress listing before any official announcement. Neither source is considered reliable, but the simultaneous appearance on two separate platforms is worth paying attention to.

AliExpress sellers regularly post unannounced or fake Garmin SKUs to grab search traffic early. Russian retail databases sometimes pull from leaked distributor feeds, but errors and placeholder listings are common there too. On their own, these mean very little.

What matters more is where the Forerunner 170 would sit in Garmin's lineup. The Forerunner 165 launched in early 2024 at around $249, bringing AMOLED display and basic recovery metrics to entry-level runners. A 170 would logically push that forward, potentially adding features currently locked to the 265 or 965, like better HRV tracking or improved GPS multi-band accuracy.

For athletes coming from a Polar Pacer or a Coros Pace 3, a refreshed entry Garmin with cleaner health tracking and a sharper screen would be a direct competitor. Apple Watch SE handles casual fitness but falls short on running dynamics. A Forerunner 170 priced at the $249 to $299 range would close that gap for newer runners who want real training data without paying Forerunner 265 money.

Verdict: treat both listings as noise for now. Wait for FCC filings or Garmin's own channels. That is when it gets real.
